There is report on iLounge, originally from ARS, that talks about the next iPod sporting an iPhone like version of OSX:

That would be very cool, but I hope they keep the Hard Drive for now as 8GB or so really is not enough for videos and such. I can understand the Flash Ram in the iphone as a Hard Drive in a phone would not be good at all, but on the ipods till larger and at a low price Flash Ram arrives, we need the space!

i think its stupid because that sounds like the ipod accessories (expensive one in my car etc) will not work with the new ones.

I think if the next ipod was os X based and used it's core fuctionality but was really easy to use. Almost the same UI as the 5th gen ipods then it'd be good. Maybe touch screen added in. Maybe not too. I'm undecided about it.
But in the end I like the ipod cause it's ultra easy to use. And if that feature is ever removed from the ipod, I won't be upgrading my 5th Gen one. |

I'm saying, that a layout like the iphone on an ipod I would not welcome, I like the flawless simplicity the ipods have now and believe now that everyone is used to the workings of an ipod it would be stupid to suddenly change to a new method of usability. |

I for one would love an iPhone like iPod, and would probably buy one on release day.

i would like it, but I put so much money into accessories, and would not like it if one day my ipod dies and I need a new one.. and i buy a new one only to find that they abandoned their old standards leaving my accessories useless.
