Hi All!

I was looking into an upgrade of my macbook to 15” mac book pro by the time the Leopard arrives. Since it seems it’s going to be delayed until October and I don’t really want to wait, I have to make a decision to buy now or not, therefore some questions:

1. As I understand there are no scheduled releases currently, but basing on previous experience is it time for Apple to release an update (in terms of hardware used) on Pro line?
2. From the other topics here I understood that some people could exchange their purchased notebooks from Apple as the new version was released within of 5 weeks after their purchase. Is it a company policy?
3. How likely it is that something new in Pro line will be released in June during the developers conference?
4. Is it possible in any way to purchase a mac with a dvd drive without zones restriction?

Hi Traffic, welcome to Mac Forums!

Questions 1, 3: This website might help you out a little. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ Keep in mind all they are doing is tracking when products are released, and predicting based on that. This is in no way a sure sign that their predictions are correct, still it is helpful. I work at a large retail store and the closeout date for the Macbook Pro's in our system is 4/30. Again, this is only and indication that updated models will come out soon after, not a sure thing. Until we get Steve Jobs posting on here... nobody can tell you for sure.

Question 2: Apple Store's return policy is two weeks from date of purchase.

Question 4: Not that I know of.

I don't believe that link will help you much. Most of the data is based on the old PowerPC processor. Since Apple has changed its paradigm, there not enough data to see the new trend, yet.

You can check out what Intel wil be introducing in the near future. You can bet that Apple will add the new hardware relatively quickly.

Good point.

However the info shows the necessarity of update due to battery problems, improved productivity of up to 3Ghz in the top notebook lines as well as improved LCD technology.

Well what exactly are you looking to update, hardware-wise? I ask because I know many folks who mod their own stuff (including my boss who's a whiz at it)...if you can give me specifics I can likely get you the information on products that you want. :batman:

Theres no way to tell about hardware releases. The 8 core mac pro was released unanounced and unpredicted. however, Theres not much reason to go from a macbook to macbook pro until the mbps are upgraded because the speed increase in regular use will be minimal.

Yeah, but that's only because the UK Apple store messed up and put it online too early!

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to buy my first Mac, a Macbook Pro to be specific, to replace my old PC and I'm a little concerned that I'll buy one and find out soon after that some newer/better model is being released. Leopard isn't as much of a concern since I know that I can at least buy that once it's released. I'm finding it hard to commit since it sort of seems like something new is going to be released based off of everyone's guesses.
