Hello All,

I just wanted to ask a question. I read a rumor today that information has been leaked about Mac's next major OS update. The article (which is linked below) mentioned that there might be a Linux kernel used instead of the BSD/Mach kernel. I did a little research, but I can't find out what kind of "real" changes this would bring. Can someone who is well-versed in these areas enlighten me?

Also, "Sloth"? Are they serious?

Mac OS 11

Bear names eh?

OS 11.0, "Polar"
OS 11.1, "Grizzly"
OS 11.2, "Panda"
OS 11.3, "Kodiak"
OS 11.4, "Sloth"
OS 11.5, "Sun"

They should reconsider the last two... here are my suggestions
OS 11.4 "Pooh"
Os 11.5 "Corduroy"

Jobs liked Rupert from childhood. Yogi will spur a lawsuit from a well-known personage of the same name in Switzerland, so Apple will change it to Boo Boo, then wonder why its OS sales tanked.

Jokes aside, it would a nightmare if Apple did go down the Linux route.

They (Linux kernel developers) used to have a stable and development branch, it's now just a development branch. It's up to the Linux distributions to decide what is a stable release.

The instabilities of USB mass storage annoyed me, You'd be copying files to a USB hard disk and the process would die.

The Linux world is a bit too chaotic and all the empty threats from Microsoft about stolen code don't help.

For my uses I dont see much wrong with Tiger.... Even with Leopards impending release, I'm not sure I'd upgrade right away. You hafta wonder; after using large cats for OS X, what type of animal will the use next? Bears, ok... but monkeys even better! Imagine OS 11.0 Gorrila, OS 11.1 Chimpanzee, OS 11.2 Bonabo......
