The next major upgrade to Apple's professional video editing software, Final Cut Pro 4, is in the final beta stages and nearing release. Sources have indicated over the course of the past several months, that FCP 4 would show its face in early April, and some insiders believe that it could be announced at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas, April 7.

The possibility of an announcement at NAB appears to be even more likely in light of the press conference Apple is scheduling there, where it plans to unveil its "strategic direction for digital video product technologies," according to an invitation sent to a number of news organizations.

Sources also raised the possibility that FCP 4 could ship alongside DVD Studio Pro 2, featuring tighter integration between the two pro apps. While unconfirmed, there are other indications that this could indeed happen: The Sunday following NAB, Apple will hold an invitation-only event at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, targeted at users of FCP and DVDSP.

Additionally, some Apple representatives are telling customers that NAB will be the stage for some significant announcements from Apple, going beyond just upgrades to FCP and DVDSP.

In December, we reported that Final Cut Pro 4 would include support for 24 fps editing, FireWire 800, and DV50. Sources have also told Think Secret that FCP4 will ship with a large number of real-time effects, and will run only on Mac OS X.

I wonder what is the minimum hardware requirement for this new version of final cut pro.
