'World's Most Powerful: Bill Gates v Steve Jobs' December 3, 2003 - 06:33 EST MacMinute reader Luke Wright let us know that BBC Two in the UK will be airing a show comparing Apple CEO Steve Jobs to Microsoft's founder and Chief Software Architect, Bill Gates. "Bill Gates heads the biggest software, services and Internet technologies company in the world," notes the promo for the show. "Steve Jobs predicted the personal computer revolution and made it happen. So who is the most powerful in the world of computing?" World's Most Powerful: Bill Gates or Steve Jobs airs Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 9:50 p.m. GMT on BBC Two. My Comments: If anybody sees this could they report here on how it was? I would be quite interested in hearing about it! ---> Join the Mac-Forums Folding team: use 37954 as your team number.View Mac-Forums Folding team statistics (More Info) Don't forget to use the User Reputation System |

I just looked on acronym finder and it says BBC stands for "British Broadcasting Corporation" so I was pretty close
Cheers!

The BBC is the original television corporation, seeing as television was invented in Britain, I believe. They produce a multitude of channels in differing genres: BBC ONE (general, drama, soaps), BBC TWO (cult, home, films), BBC THREE (comedy), BBC FOUR (documentaries and educational - but not in a "teaching children" kind of way), BBC NEWS 24 (self explanatory) - and there are plenty of others. They're also the main radio broadcasters, with several different stations.
Another thing: I know for a fact that they transmit a service for Brits across the world on television, with World news, and some of their best programming scattered across the schedule. This channel's called BBC World, and is available off satellite, and possibly cable. In the US, they also transmit a "best of BBC" channel called BBC Prime; you might want to check it out. As they're the UK's public service broadcaster, paid for by the license fee, they carry no adverts - a blessing after seeing the adverts/commercial breaks that happen every 5 minutes on US television. They also officially have the biggest website in the world. http://www.bbc.co.uk |

actually i think ABC is owned by AOL Disney Time Warner multi comglomerate corporation ... rumored to drop the AOL name due to AOL's bad name recognition and low popularity among many people .. but that is only a rumor. my guess is theyll make a new flashy name before dropping part of the name

Hey all
Recorded this and watched it at the weekend, was quite an interesting watch. Was fronted by the rather annoying and over the top Alvin Hall and compared how the 2 started up, there sucess adn downfalls and where they are today. Firstly went into how both guys were the same age, and how Gates had a lot more drive as a youngster whereas Jobs was a lot more care free, Jobs went to I.T. classes and met some bloke [Waz something?!] and teamed up with his brains to create the 1st mass produced Pc. Gates was at this time setting up his Software company. Then goes on to tell that when Jobs brought out the Apple 2, IBM got Gates to create ms dos for their new pc [which Gates didnt even create, he bought it for $60,000 off another company!!]. Gates instead of selling for a 1 off fee wanted a small amount per pc, thus why is such a rich bloke now! Apple 'Macintosh' was the big step forward in Pc's in the early 80's with Windows released soon after. The downfalls came when Jobs wa ousted from his own company by the board after a period of poor sales. Gates downfall was the monopoly ruling. The last part went onto describe how they bounced back. Jobs with him being the man at Pixar and making billions from the coputer animated films and then coming back to Apple and leading a resurgence in sales. Gates, is just too big to take on, and the monopoly decision hasn't really changed a thing. Alvin concluded that Gates is the World's Most Powerful Computer Person, due to the fact that everywhere in the World there is something running on Microsoft Software. Good program, next week is Beckham v Tiger Woods for the Worlds Greatest Sportsman! Last edited by bells0; 12-08-2003 at 09:52 AM. |
