Apple rumored testing iTunes 11 with iCloud control

Quote:
New rumors mixed with more concrete details has pointed to Apple actively testing iTunes 11. Test build screenshots slipped to 9to5 purportedly have a central iCloud panel that would control all iTunes-related iCloud features, such as iTunes Match or device backups. The build would also have iOS 6 compatibility, although it might not be necessary and could be preceded by a 10.x update instead....

Sometimes it feels like Apple is slowly working towards an ecosystem that contains mostly iCloud, iTunes and iOS.

I notice you didn't include Mac OS in that list. Was that deliberate? Because if so, I agree with you.

I'm tempted to joke that Mac OS XI will essentially be a version of iTunes 11.

Apple has already decided to make iTunes a music player, movie player, music-sharing platform, storefront, iOS syncing and backup device, CD burner and social networking tool all rolled into one, so I'm sure adding the ability to run generic apps on it can't be far off (especially if the Mac App Store gets merged in).

Like ChromeOS - the OS that's just a glorified delivery system for Chrome?

According to an Ars Technica article, "iTunes 11 will reportedly focus less on interface changes and more on under-the-hood code, which should theoretically optimize performance." I'd love to see iTunes get the "Snow Leopard treatment" here. I think iTunes has enough features for now (I still think, like I did years ago, that Apple should break iTunes into a few smaller apps) so it would be nice to see them take a break and clean it up.

I just wish they'd make iTunes look/feel/run like other OS apps.

I feel that iTunes is too cumbersome. Apple really should have several apps instead of one-fits-all program.
