The claim is based on White's meetings with Apple suppliers while on a visit to China. The device, nicknamed the "iPad mini," would allegedly expand the reach of the iPad by making it accessible to people who can't justify the normal $499 barrier to entry....

I'd like to point out that people have been predicting an "iPhone Mini" for years...

Steve himself, said that he thought that such a form factor was silly, and was not what people were asking for. Has he been known to contradict himself much?

Well at one time I think the form factor was thought to be silly.
but in this economy, people are willing to settle for a smaller sized item if it means a lower price.
The Kindle, and Barns and Nobel has shown that people really don't mind a 7" tablet. I wanted a 7" tablet so that I could use it as a photo frame at work, load a movie on it to watch during lunch, and use it at home for casual surfing/email. A 10" size and the 10" price is a bit more than what I really need for my casual use.

I could definitely see a smaller version of the ipad/larger version of the touch, but I won't hold my breath for it. However, if it did, I would be the first in line for it. I'm looking for something within the 6"-7" tablet area. I don't need something as large as an iPad.
