I manually checked for an iOS update in iTunes this morning when I plugged in my iPhone 4 and I got this message...

It got me thinking that maybe Apple is prepping their servers for releasing iOS 5.

Or it just might be something else completely.

P.S. I'm not having any issues connecting to the internet and everything else is working per usual.

I saw that same error a few weeks back when I updated my wife's phone to 4.2.10. I would love to see iOS 5 though!

A leading indication of impending iOS release is the developer seeds going GM..which hasn't happened yet..until that happens, you won't see a release..once the seed goes GM, then you can start counting the days until iOS 5 is released..

It's working fine now. False alarm. I figured it was likely something minor (bug, glitch, down server) but was hopeful it was something more. Like when the Apple Store goes down overnight. You know a new product is coming and you get excited to see what it is.

My guess is that you'll see iOS5 released right after the new iPhone event to discuss the launch of iPhone 5 and potentially iPhone 4S. Apple has to keep the hype going strong and from a marketing standpoint that seems to be the best way to do it. Plus, they are still beta testing iCloud.

Normally by now, as has been the case for the last couple years at least, we'd have seen some new iPods. My thinking is they'll have an all in one event - iPod, iPhone/iOS hardware/iOS updates.

One more week? Or one more month? C'mon Apple!

 late 2009 MacBook - OS X 10.7.5
 early 2009 Mac mini - OS X 10.7.5
 4th gen iPod touch 32GB - iOS 6.0
 iPhone 4 8GB - iOS 6.0
