390 MB for a Mid 2011 iMac. So far it works well although I can't really see any major changes.

It seems to imply that the version of the MAS that comes with 10.6.8 will be required for Lion. I'm not exactly sure what that "enhancement" would be but it might be something to consider if you want Lion.

Will as always go and get the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo. I did notice one of the fixes was "Identifies and removes known variants of Mac Defender". A bit off topic and cant find the thread but wasnt there talk the Apple Geniuses wouldnt even tell a customer if this Malware was on it and definitely wouldnt remove it ?? If that was the gist of the thread then why have they made a fix where geniuses wouldnt mention you having it ?? Or did i miss something ? . . . . .

Having updated from the days of OS 6, have never gone for this need to use the Combo Updater each and every time. Think it is vital for a machine experiencing OS problems, otherwise Software Update does the trick. Combo Updater 1.09GB vs. 250MB download for a Mac Pro. Can see the point of the Combo Updater also if one has several different models.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer! |

^^^ I havnt got a problem with the size Harry. Just from what i have been through, 1st time i tried SU i had problems. Went Combo the next back to SU the one after with problems. Combo update until x.6.6 i went SU Problems. Went Combo no problems.
So everytime (3) i have used SU for the update i get a glitch somewhere so i save myself the pain and get the Combo and this way as well i have it as a backup if i need to reinstall. Boring? What was less boring about 10.6.7? .6?
There is a lot more to the update than just the App store update. Go read all the fixes. And like Schweb stated, you do not have to update but it will affect you down the road if you do not! |

My update was only 260+mb's. Went well. Can't really tell the difference, but when I update app's it will actually count down the seconds now. Never did that before(I think?).

275.3 MB for me, 2007 iMac.
Downloading now. If the OpenGL is improved, that might make EVE Incarna run better. Already found that it is faster on 10.6.7 than on 10.6.6, so let's hope 10.6.8 is faster still. Wish my Dev copy of Lion would recognise my external disk and install. Love to try that too. |
