Why is AirPlay so slow to be implemented?

I'm not talking about video streaming, but about availability of inexpensive boombox type music player. What I want is something I can set in my living room and stream music from my iPhone or iPad without paying $500 or having it look like some form of strange avantegard art piece. (Yes I have seen the Zeppelin Air!)

I'd be willing to pay up to $200 for the convenience, but that is it. I know I could buy an Airport Express and stream off of that, but that is not what I want. I want an electronic device that is capable of being a stand alone music player that also can receive AirPlay.

Is the technology or licensing from Apple prohibitively expensive? If not, why the delays? iHome has been promising the iW1 (also not exactly what I want, but close) for almost a year, and still no product release.

Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

I hear ya! I'm the same way I keep hearing about the iHome's iW1, but when is it coming out?
