Has anyone else received a letter from Bancroft v. Apple Computer, Inc. Claims Administrator? I just got mine yesterday and a friend of mine got one the day before. Looks like some people are unhappy with OS X and upset that Apple promised it would do so much more and therefor suing Apple. It also looks like you are automatically included in the lawsuit unless you send this Attorney a letter stating that you would like to be excluded. I need to get my letter out to them right away. My advice to these people is - go but a PC if you're not happy. I'd also like to include a few questions on how this Attorney can go about suing Micro$oft for making such crappy software that leads to downtime because of instability and security issues.

I wonder what promises are they speaking about, Because, if it is OS X 10.0 then they are to late. As a tax payer, I believe the suit should not be filed.

Secondly I should sue California, the attonery general and his staff for filing this suit.

I know there is a lemon law, but this sounds like sour grapes to me.

No kidding, how can you sue apple for not making a 'better' OS, when its already got the leading hardware, leading OS, leading portable mp3 player, leading mp3 player (itunes), leading networking support, leading developer tools, what do they mean!

its a class action suit. these are schemes by lawyers that spend a yr finding a loop hole in the law, then get a big pay off... weasels in my book.

To get your money, you have to have bought a copy of OS 10.0 or (10.1 dont remember) and did not install it on any machine. Then you get your $59 back or whatever it was. But heres where the lawyers cash in. They get half of the settlement. Yes, half of whatever the sum of the price of every copy of os 10 goes to their pocket. i understand not all lawyers are crooked, but these people are going to bring down the legal system sooner or later

Maybe I'll either type up a version of the letter I have so you can all see it and really make a judgement on it, or scan the page, or both. Hmm... wonder how well me Epson 1250 does OCR if it does it at all. Stay tuned.

This is old news. There was a class action suit by certain G3 owners who bought upgrades to Mac OS X because it mentioned Quartz Extreme but didn't mention that it didn't work. It was settled months ago so you're probably just receiving a copy of the proposed settlement. It's not a new case.

G3/OS X settlement gets preliminary approval
October 30 - 17:39 EST A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has given preliminary approval to the settlement that would allow some Mac OS X owners to get a refund for the operating system. In August, Apple reached a tentative agreement to settle the class action lawsuit that claimed the company had failed to fully support Mac OS X on some G3-based Macs. The settlement calls for Apple to refund the cost of Mac OS X (up to US$129) to users who turn in their CDs. Users who feel that Mac OS X impaired their ability to run certain applications can get a $25 e-coupon for use at the online Apple Store. Apple also agreed to pay $350,000 to the law firm of King & Ferlauto.

It also states that these people can not run OS X on their Mac in the future. So they'd have to upgrade anyways and buy a new Mac. What idiots. I still have a beige 300MHz G3 with OS X 10.2.6 running on it and it runs fine. Yeah somethings aren't so fast even though I have a 32MB ATI card but it's 5 years old! I don't expect it to be super fast compared to my new 1.6 G5.
