AppleInsider | Mac OS X Lion iChat supports Yahoo Messenger video and voice chat

Quote:
Apple has added support for Yahoo Messenger to Mac OS X Lion's iChat app, reportedly enabling text, voice and video chat over Yahoo's instant messenger protocol.
Lion also introduces a unified buddy list (FINALLY) to iChat.

For me, looks like I can finally dump Adium. The only one missing from iChat is Windows Live and I don't use that.

I use the windows messenger network a lot still. So I'd need that before I can stop using adium. But in saying that adium is pretty good in itself. So for me these ichat features don't thrill me. But I'm sure heave yahoo users would love the changes.

Win messenger is still the most widely used IM protocol in most of Europe. What makes this fact so interesting, is that it represents a huge segment of the market which has yet to be tapped by the likes of Apple. I know they're expanding little by little, but they're the ones who need to be hit hardest.

The only thing I wouldn't mind seeing in iChat is a tabbed chat window, but Chax seems to do well enough at making that happen. Same with the unified buddy list, Chax takes care of that too! It's nice to see it be done officially though, and hopefully using Chax won't be necessary in the near future!

Phh, silly me. I've gotten my features of iChat and Chax mixed up then! This is good news then, as I won't be needing Chax anymore. Sorry for the mistake!

This is a nice feature for iChat, but this should be a software update. I expect Apple to add more features to iChat now, using Yahoo on iChat doesn't have me sold just yet.
