Someone was bound to lose their job over this. I'm sure he got a nice severance package.

Odd... The title is kind of confusing in that it mentions the antenna at all. According to Apple, the antenna was just fine and an arguably statistically insignificant number of vocal users were holding the phone wrong. Apple also has stated that this is the best antenna design ever. Why fire the guy for the best antenna design ever or for the operational shortcomings of a few hundred thousand users? I'm betting that their letting him go is unrelated to the antenna issue entirely.

Makes you wonder if Apple is in denial over their antenna. Either way, I actually like the design(the way it LOOKS!). I'm calling it, he got paid off by HP to ruin the phone...

I agree there is probably more to it than one issue.

Actually no.

Follw-up reports have stated it was all due to a personal falling out with Steve months before the iPhone 4 release. He apparently had been removed from decision making awhile back. The WSJ has a good article on the situation.

Also, the antenna design was created over a year before Papermaster even started at Apple.

The guy did come from IBM where things were done differently. If the Boss (Steve Jobs) is deeply involved in everything that's going all the way down to personally answering customers emails or stopping by local Apple Stores, The same dedication is expected of everyone below him.

Yep agree 100% ...... If the cogs arnt greased and the rails are a little rusty, its when Companies start to loose market share, and the way Jobs has been running  since his return is a testament to himself. If his underminions cant follow instructions, to the way he wants it, the they are better off not being there.
For the good of the company

You've never been married, have you? Every couple promises each other that they will be faithful and love their spouse in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer "until death do you part", but over 50% of all marriages end up in divorce!

No one can read the future.
