Anyone hear anything about the new 16 core intel pro tower due out this summer?

I haven't heard anything.. but I think a 12 core is more likely since Intel has their 6 core XEON's out now.. I think you're more likely to see 16 (or 24) cores on xserve..

Just out of curiosity, what do you intend to do with the machine? Very little software can address multiple processors to begin with, and of that software that can, there are no packages I know of that can address more than 8.

If it was going to be a server or used in a render farm or running custom software, that would be one thing. But the average Joe will derive absolutely no benefit from that kind of massive parallelism.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

It would have to be a very smart man customising the software for 16 cores simultaneously. As not even Apple's pro software can use 16 cores at once at the moment. It'll happen one day just not now.
