Apple has released a knowledge base document explaining which computers will not boot OS 9. The computers that are OS X only are:
  • PowerBook (12-inch)
  • PowerBook (17-inch)
  • Power Mac G4 (FW 800)
  • iMac (Flat Panel)serial number xx305xxxxxx or later
  • iMac (17-inch 1 GHz)

I don't understand the problem with X only hardware. I am one of those that believe if it is not broke don't fix it. With that said. If your hardware is working fine with OS 9 and all the software you are using is working fine what is the problem. If you want a new car. You worry about the old rims and tires in the garage, when looking to buy a new. You sell the tires and the rims and buy the new car. I believe that is the same with computer hardware, that is what e-bay is for. Just my nickel.

I think Apple should sell OS 9 for around $19.99 as an optional second OS when you buy a computer.
