Yah, there's a big point that a lot of people miss here. All G5s are PowerPCs however NOT ALL PowerPCs are G5s. It's not the same chip that is in the Apple CPU so those who use the XBox 360 as an "example that Apple is overpriced" are incorrect.

PowerPC-based with 3 cores running at 3.06ghz for $300-$400? If it is G5 or not is not the problem to me.
Now, i wonder what would this mean in the future for Mac users, the new Xbox WILL be hacked, is just a matter of time, would this make Macs less secure?
Also, if the new Xbox is everything that it is supossed to be, Microsoft will be showing the power and possibilities of the PowerPC to everyone. Will, somehow, this affect Apple?
I could be talking about this, but i have to go to work....

The rumor is that the new xbox is goign to have powerpc and bluetooth(mainly for controllers) and that als you will need to do is buy a contoller and an xbox game and you can play on your mac which will be awsome.

Well, the idea of the Xbox using a powerpc chip inside is already fact. Microsoft documented it all over their site.

Additionally, I remember that back around January this year apple created a devision for gaming, which may be related to releasing an update to allow OS X users to play Xbox2 Games.

Of course, this is just speculation based on the facts we have now.

If the new xbox 360 games would be able to be played on a Mac it would be awsome. I cant wait until 360 is released to be able to play the top video games on my mac(when I get it)

Further indication of the fact that macs can play Xbox2 games is the fact that the Xbox2 demos were running on Macs! Not Xbox!

So are you saying that Macs will only run xbox2 games if the demo is run on Macs?

Well, I'm not entirely sure. As of now, there is no evidence to support the fact that Xbox 2 can run Xbox1 games. If it can, most likely, so can the Macs(assuming they run Xbox2 games!)

I was simply stating that it is PROVEN that Macs CAN run Xbox games because of their processor similarity. Whether or not Apple and Microsoft team[ed] up to create this for end users is another, unanswered(as of now) story.

I would bealive that Macs would run Xbox 2 games because it has Power Pc (what macs have) and bluetooth(standard in all Macs) so it would probally run Xbox 2 games.Looking at how Sony made Playstation and Playstation 2 where Playstation games could run on PS2 I think it'll work.

I agree.
But: PUNCTUATION!!!

Corrected: I would believe that Macs would run Xbox 2 games because it has the PowerPC Processor(similar to what current Macs have). As well, it comes with bluetooth connectivity for the wireless controllers(Is that right?). Although most macs do come with Bluetooth standard, some such as the mac mini and powermac, do not. After looking at how Sony made Playstation games run on the Playstation 2, I believe that Xbox games will run on Xbox 2, therefore allowing the Mac to play both Xbox and Xbox 2 Games.

Thank for the correction. I really hope my theory is correct the only way we can find out is when it is released.

Wireless controllers were an idea knocking around long before nintendo implemented it. Upright CD players were around long before Sony implemented it. Mac's are beautifully designed and the world would be a better looking place if everyone took as much care. Finally, the best companies stealing ideas from each other is how development and improvement happens. OS X is hardly original, it's an idea that was taken, developed and perfected. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Anyway you cut it there is no denying that the XBOX 360 is simply an amazing piece of kit. Whether or not it will have a strong line up of quality games has yet to be revealed, but XBOX 360 is an example of Microsoft finally starting to get things right.

I say, "Unless it causes death, it's not a problem!".

A little off topic but rumours are flying around that Apple are collaborating with Sony on the PS3. iTunes / iPod support etc. and help with the UI.

Yep, IBM, Sony and Apple are collaborating on a variety of technologies (along with Motorola and others), MS are using IBM technology in the XBOX2 so it looks very much like Intel are being sidelined on the two main consoles (although at a guess I'd say the Wifi chips wil probably be off the shelf Intel kit ).

The winners in all this? IBM!

What will be interesting is how a 4 core PS3 cell processor (with PPC based cores) will compare with the 3 core PPC XBOX solution.

Oh and the take the 3 Ghz PPC cores with a pinch of salt, that 3 Ghz figure is probably like the claim Steve Jobs made, i.e a projected value. By the time the XBOX2 is in the shops I've no doubt that the first twin core 3 Ghz G5 PowerMacs will also be hitting the market! If not then the first XBOX2s will probably be 2.7 Ghz models.
