Even when I worked in electronics retail, I would tell some customers that it's not which carrier is the best, it's which one sucks the least.

Best statement I've heard in a while.
The iPhone coming to Verizon would definately increase my chances of getting one. My family's plan is up in March, but my parents don't really want to switch to AT&T although I think it the reception is better in our area with AT&T anyway. (we switched to AT&T for like a week a couple of years back...long story short, my parents got the free phones and were unsatisfied with the reception. My sister and I both got Sony Ericssons and we had great reception even in the house.) So yeah, I definitely wouldn't mind iPhone on Verizon.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think you could simply add an iPhone to an existing plan - or even add another type of phone to an existing iPhone plan. When I was looking at the iPhone, this was a major turn-off, as my wife has no want or need for anything fancier than a standard cell phone, but I still want to be on a family plan instead of two separate plans.

Your wrong. I had a Blackberry and a Family plan for me and my fiance. All I did was walk in, get the iPhone, and have them change the data part of my plan from Blackberry to iPhone. Costs the same and everything.

OK, thanks for that - I must have misunderstood when I was talking to AT&T. Food for thought the next time our contract comes up for renewal.

Who knows, that may have been the way in the beginning and you did hear correctly. I only switched a little less than a month ago. Regardless, it is possible now.

This wouldn't surprise me because sometime in the near future Verizon is suppose to take over Alltel. This is going to make them the largest cell phone carrier in the nation. So it would be a smart move by Apple in my opinion.

Apple taking the iPhone to Verizon would have no effect on the iPhone you just bought. Apple isn't going to put out an update that will automatically shut down all the iPhones on AT&T, not to mention it would be pretty stupid for Apple to drop AT&T altogether if the Verizon thing were to ever happen.

My wife and I are on the family plan (we both have iPhones). I don't believe you would have to wait for a contract renewal to merge your plans... I'm pretty sure they said I had the option to do so when I first looked into it even though we both were in separate contracts at the time.

Thanks, but I forgot to mention that I has renewed by contract with Verizon after I had been erroneously told this by AT&T.
