When I got my new phone at verizon about 6 months ago one of the sales reps said Apple initially came to verizon with the iPhone. He said the reason Verizon didn't want it was they were required to give apple all of their customer information.
Mac Specs: 15" Unibody Mac Book Pro, 2.66 Ghz Mac Pro w/ 2gb RAM. 1ghz G4 Powerbook w/ 768 RAM.
I'd love to see the iPhone come to Verizon. Don't mind my Blackberry and the Storm looks cool, but would love an iPhone. I agree that they have to back off on their control freakish ways to be successful with the iPhone. My BB GPS is crippled and I'm not payin' 10 extra bucks a month for VZ Navigator. Maps function works fine.
Here's my Verizon/Apple rumor/speculation/story that I heard about why the original deal didn't go through: VZ wanted to sell the iPhone the same way they treat every other phone (i.e. the more contract you sign up for, the cheaper your phone gets) and Apple wanted to stick to a price point. VZ said, "We'll do what we want with it," and Apple said, "no, you won't. Thanks for playing"
I don't know that Apple would DENY At&t use of the iPhone, screwing current users. They'd more than likely just have the iPhone on both At&t and Verizon.
Also, it was my understanding that the iPhone 3G has the hardware necessary to run on CDMA networks, it's just not activated. Does anyone know about this?

If people think the I-phone plan costs now wait if it ever happens with Verizon
there will be no roll-over minutes and you will be charged for every little thing
I just came from there no dropped calls it just goes to your voicemail sometime that day.
Not only that, but Verizon's CEO has done nothing but bash the iPhone and taunt Apple, even recently in spite of its success.
The company I work for deals daily with Verizon. I can say one thing with certainty: You cannot take ANYTHING that Verizon say at face value, unless it's written in a contract. They will deny, evade, lie, bend the truth.
They will bash anything and everything that doesn't have the Verizon label on it, up until the day they release the very same product. On that day, that old turd they were bashing magically turns to gold.
They're SNAPPY DRESSERs, they're hypocrites. But the DARN thing is that they do offer the best cell phone service in North America. I've tried multiple handsets on multiple carriers, both in the US and Canada and I have to admit that, in my experience, Vz has the best coverage and clearer calls of them all, even on the lowest end handsets.
I'd love to see the iPhone go to Verizon

This rumor has me quite excited. I have Verizon and as much as it sucks at times it's also nice since most of my friends and family have it, so it is worth the money to keep the service. I was seriously considering switching when my contract is up in August, just to get the iPhone; but if this rumor is at all true. I will be able to stay with Verizon and get the phone. This may have just made my day.
Someone may correct me if I am wrong but I thought that it was posted in
some online news that Apple had a contract exclusive with AT&T till 2010.
At&t never officially told ANYONE when and what time their contract with the iphone is up, due to obvious reasons. But a good apple source (cant think of the name) was said that apple is recruiting apple engineers with experience in making CDMA and EDVOC phones. So it may be quite obvious that there will be a Verizon iPhone in 2009.
You mean Verizon would allow a phone on their network that has...gasp...wi-fi?

Those sort of things are part of the reason that Verizon turned Apple down in the first place. It was simple stupidity on their part. Apple likes to control things but Verizon, it seems, is just as bad.
