Apple pushes back dual G5 ship date
August 29, 2003 - 00:38 EDT A number of MacMinute readers report that Apple has changed the expected shipping date for their dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 from "on or before 8/29/03" to "on or before 9/26/03." Apple has continually said that the dual 2GHz machines would ship before the end of August. Rhett Michelson reports: "I ordered a dual Power Mac G5 at 9:00 a.m. on 6/25 through the Apple Store for Education. The shipping information for the last three months has been 'on or before 8/29/03.' At approximately 7:00 p.m. PDT the shipment information changed to 'on or before 9/26/03.'" Another reader reports the same: "I ordered a dual G5 within the first 20 minutes after the Apple web store with the G5 was put up. My ship date was on or before 8/29 until 10:00 p.m. MST on 8/28. Suddenly the ship date was moved out to 9/26/03."

"The demand for the dual processor Power Mac has been overwhelming and our employees are working around the clock to meet demand," reads a portion of the e-mail. Apple: Dual G5s have begun shipping
September 2, 2003 - 16:45 EDT In a statement issued Tuesday, Apple said that it had started shipping some dual 2GHz Power Mac G5s, but said it would be getting up to volume production speed in the next two weeks. "The dual-processor 2GHz Power Mac G5s have begun shipping and are making their way to customers, with production volumes ramping up during the next two weeks," Apple said in the statement acquired by CNET News.com. "The 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz models are already in volume production, and we have shipped over 25,000 of them." The statement was not clear as to whom the dual G5s were being shipped to. As we reported last week, Apple said in an email that "initial units will be sent to education institutions to meet key back to school deadlines."
