I received some updates and I selected "Restart later". when I was finished I clicked restart and it asked me if i wanted to restart and install updates or only restart. i accidentally clicked install and restart and I realized that I was installing the exact same updates over again. I turned my computer off by holding the power button. Now, my computer will not turn on. It goes to the white screen with the apple and after about 15 seconds it tells me my computer needs to be restarted. then i have to do the same thing over and over again. please help me !

I take it you are running 10.5 Leopard. It was not installing the same updates again. Leopard's updater restarts to install the updates when they have system files to prevent issues like Tiger had when users had 20 million applications running and tried to update. When you held down the power button you stopped the update of probably system files and now they are not there.

I would guess the only way to fix it is put in the OSX Install DVD, when it comes up go to Options and select Archive and Install. None of your files will be lost that way. Then re-run the update and this time let it restart and install.

If it did not turn on there would be no white screen.

Put in the OSX DVD and Hold DOWN the C key right after the Startup sound.

Be sure you do an Archive and Install so you will not loose your files.
