So I'm running a late 2005 Powerbook G4 (1.67ghz, 2gb DDR2, 160gb Hard Drive, 10.5.1), and its been really good to me for the past 2 years. But its starting to get a bit slow with everyday things, so Its time to upgrade.
Has anyone switched from Powerbook G4 to Macbook, and regretted it? My concern is that I'm used to the 15" 1440x960 res and dedicated graphics (128mb ATI 9600), and I'm concerned about the Integrated Graphics in the MB and the 1280x800 res. I don't have time for games, but I do occasionally like to run Final Cut 6, Motion 3, etc. I guess I could easily buy a Blackbook now, and maybe upgrade the HDD to 200gb 7200rpm for a performance boost, or I could just wait a few months and buy one the new Penryn based MBPs. Any thoughts? |

You are in exactly my position, about to retire the old G4 and consider a macbook
I found a good article here with some more links to benchmark tests, outside of hardcore games we should be OK http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...50-gaming.html |

I just wish they would change the appearance of the Pros so that I feel like I bought something completely new. |

When I got my MB, I was 50/50 on MBP or MB--the reason I picked the MB is the size and the battery life. Graphics performance, backlit keyboard, etc., is nice but having the 5+ hours of battery life that I get out of this thing sure than make up for it.
I like the 15" screen size....I have a santa rosa HP that is being returned as we speak; I loved the large screen size but the 13" isn't much of a compromise for me. The sales guy at the Apple Store had a great pitch for me..... "If you spend 50% of your time at home, and 50% of your time away, get the MBP. If you spend any more time than that away from home w/ your notebook, get the MB..." Considering I was going to get either one, it was a good pitch and I've been pretty happy w/ the performance on the MB. |
