would this be compatible with a g5 imac? i would find it hard to believe it is ONLY compatible with the macbook air.

This straight from an Apple rep:

"I can confirm it is only for the MacBook Air; the Air has special
hardware support for it. (I suspect the USB port provides more power,
but I don't know if it is anything more than that). There is also the
driver for it in the boot ROM of the machine to support booting from it."

Buyer beware.

I think this would sell if they opened it up so that people with combo drives could buy this as an upgrade.... My thinking is that a rom update and software update would be needed to do this. Maybe Apple could handle this like they did with the wireless n enabler $5 thing.
