I want to keep my MB pro turned on (sleep mode) in my case so it is readily available for use without having to wait for it to reboot.
I will be carrying it "door to door" in the sales business.
Is the heat or other considerations an issue as far as leaving it on inside the case?

Nope. You're doing the right thing. Leaving it in sleep mode is the best way to work with a portable.
