I would like to know if the fast hard disk drive with 7200 rpm for the MacBook Pro brings any serious disadvantages.

I have heard of many negative experiences, from hardware troubles to even failures.

a 7200rpm would probably generate more heat and drain more power on the battery.

i noticed niether of these with my 7k200.

battery power is identical to what my 5400 drive was. also, its cooler accoring to istat pro.

the above quote is a huge generalization in my opinion. power req vary from drive to drive, so you cant base what one drive uses versus another.

thats what i said. the only disadvantge to buying a 200gb 7200 drive now is that a 320gb 5400 will be just as fast, and youll lose out bigtime on size.

there was a 250gb 5400 out when i bought my 200gb 7200, but it was 200+$. the hitachi i got for 140$
