Okay, I have never had problems with my iBook except for in the last couple of days. Also, I should mention that my computer is just over two years old. That said, here is my problem: my entire screen begins flashing white--at first intermittently and then more regularly until the entire screen is nearly white. This continues indefinitely: sometimes it only flashes white for a few seconds, while at other times it freezes for several minutes, at which point I close the iBook and reopen. This seems to help in so far as it allows me a break from the flashes; that is, it seems to buy me some time so that I may save my work. This problem, while small at first, has become greater in frequency and size. Needless to say I am very nervous, especially since I am a student with very little money. Finally, I should mention that I've taken pretty good care of my computer--no serious bangs, spills, editing/heavy software, etc.

Oh, and until yesterday I exclusively used Safari as my browser. However, with the growing severity of this problem, I have switched to the new version of Firefox. That seemed to help at first. Now I'm not so sure.

Please, if anyone has any suggestions at all, I would greatly appreciate them. I know computer repairs can be very costly. Nevertheless, I would appreciate any advice/suggestions/possible causes/ and/or troubleshooting that anyone may have. This is absolutely crucial for school, and I am not very skilled in regard to computers.

Thank you.

It could be that you have accidentally turned a feature for deaf users

Does the flash occur at the same time as an alert sound?

If so go to apple menu > System Preferences > Universal Access

On the hearing tab uncheck flash screen when....
