I am going to college soon and I need to purchase a new wireless router/access point. I currently have a linksys g router at my home which runs of of my Dell. It works very well, but in college I will have only have my powerbook. How should I go about wireless in college: Should I buy airport express which run at 54mbps or should I buy a none-mac (Linksys or D-link) which can run at like 108mbps? Keeping in mind that the most poeple that will connect to this network are like 4 people. Thanks in advance

Most of the traffic that I use through my network is Internet - I only use it to transfer files about once a week, if that. So I'm quite happy with my 11mbps Wireless Access Point, as my broadband is only 750kbps.

What are you going to use it for mostly?

I am going to use it for internet mostly with the occasional file transfer, however, an external harddrive is also something that I am in the process of buying so file transfer will be even less frequent one i have this.

I'd wait and see if you need your own router. Chances are you'll find a signal wherever you're staying. Most wireless users don't know about security.

Regarding your backup disk- I recently bought the 60GB SmartDisk Firelite (it's also available at the apple store). It's about the size of my wallet and I highly recommend it even with the larger price tag. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...3.0.7.16.1.1.0
