hi gang. i tried searching for a related topic, but to my surprise, i couldn't find one.

safari has been crashing on me lately, ALOT. the other day after re-opening it all of my bookmarks were gone.

adium has been doing the same thing, but with less frequency.

i was able to retrieve my bookmarks from firefox, but guess what? that crashed as well.

i obviously need help. the only change i've made recently was installing bounceback after buying an 80gig firelite.

i reset safari and emptied the cache, ran a repair disk and a restart and it seemed to be working, but an hour later it just crashed again.

i have recent crash reports for both safari and firefox if these are useful to anyone, unfortunately they are just greek to me, except for the "kern protection failure" part.

thanks in advance for any help

Are you using BounceBack Version 5.1?

How much RAM do you have installed and which Mac do you have and do you have Tiger 10.4 or Leopard 10.5?

1GB ddr sdram
tiger 10.4.10

yes, bounceback is 5.1, though i havent actually used it, just installed.

there is an update for tiger, it says safari 3? i dont want to do it yet because i am afraid it might complicate things.

should i post the crash reports?

Search key words: kern, protection, failure:

iMovie quits

Have you got good quality ram installed ? Try just unplugging everything and connecting directly, if it's a kernel crash then it could even be the camera itself.

yeah, i did that, it wasn't helpful, so i made a thread.

safari, adium, and firefox all crash randomly, it has nothing to do with plugging cameras in.

thanks though, i appreciate the effort.

I know that
However, you don't have to take a searched thread word for word. Just because it isn't the same exact app or hardware, the error is the commonality. That is why I highlighted the post that explained KPF's:

It doesn't have to be a camera. It doesn't even have to be an external device. It could be your RAM. It could be some other internal device. Maybe an AirPort card... which would have everything to do with web connective apps like Safari, Adium or Firefox.

Try taking out your extra RAM. See if you get the error.
Try removing the AirPort card and using a wired connection. See if you still get the error.

You also stated "the only change i've made recently was installing bounceback after buying an 80gig firelite."
It could be that drive.

Try unmounting it and see if you get the error.

k.

the extra ram has been in the machine since it was delivered, so do you think i can count that out? the firelite isnt mounted atm, so i can count that out too, right?

would installing bounceback create an issue like this 2-3 weeks after installation?

and heres another thing, its been working fine now for the last 2 or 3 hours, but the 2 or 3 hours before that safari crashed 4 or 5 times.

and thanks for cleaning my mess up up there...
