This happens from time to time with many notebooks. Check out this article for a detailed description of how to fix it.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Its very easy to fix. If you can't figure it out bring it to an Apple store and they will pop it back on. Buttons fall off by how you type and treat your keyboard. Perhaps you type really hard or something.
Basically you lay it over the spot it popped off and rock it back and forth and wiggle it around. I usually have my boyfriend do it for me because I'm just really clumsy and would probably make another key fall off.

I was wondering the same thing - if the latter, what about it didn't work?

I'm guessing it did, or he'd be back.
