Ok just wondered if anyone can help me out with this.

I have just got to uni on a computing degree and about 75% of the work we are doing is in mac labs.

I am considering buying a second hand or refurbished ibook/powerbook so i can work from home on some of the assignments as the mac labs are always booked out for classes.

Can anyone recommend a spec that would cover java programming and generally getting used to using OS x and Macs.

i dont know the first thing about the workings of these notebooks as i understand that g3 and g4 processors work differantly to intel or AMD chips

I have had a good look on ebay and in the price range of £250 - £300 there are alot of machines with 600Mhz - 1 Ghz chips and between 512mb and 640mb of RAM. I like the idea of the 12" screen to as it means it wont take up major desk space. Would this sort of spec be a good starting point ? i cant really afford anymore having become a student again *sigh*

Whats the differance between the g3 and g4 chips ?

Sorry that this thread is long winded im just a little confused !

Thanks

Java comes pre-installed on MAC's so all you will require is a good IDE to develop in eg Eclipse from http://www.eclipse.org/
