i know it looks upnormal to compare imac with macbook pro but...

i am graphics designer and photographer, i used to work on pc and there is big deference between the notebook and desktop in performance point

now i am going to get my own mac i have no problem if its imac or macbook but the only thing i am worry about is the performance, who is better in performance and stability

the Macbook pro and iMac are pretty much the same performance-wise although now the macbook pro has a Geforce 8600 card while the iMac is with the ATi 2600. Apparently the MBP's card is better than the iMac.

Otherwise they are the same, except for of course the screen size and the price. MBP for portability, iMac if you can manage without portability...

Since you're a designer, I suggest the iMac since it has a larger screen -- easier for working on large photo's or creations.

khalilcg, which MacBook Pro and which iMac are you looking at, specifically? Or are you just looking at both in general right now? There's some advantages and disadvantages to either machine, but what those are changes a bit depending on which model you're looking at.

Why not get an MBP for portability and add a large LCD to it. The MBP can drive an external monitor no problem. 24" LCDs are pretty cheap right now. I guess it all depends on whether portability has any value to you.

thanks allot guys for your response...
Geeky1 i am looking in general at the moment, portability is important for me but after my bad experience with pc's i care more about performance and kind of ignore portability to get better performance this is my point ..

Its just that the macbook pro is an excellent performer so its only the cost/screensize debate that comes into play. Also the 17" has the same resolution as a 24 inch iMac so its just as well..

MBP, never know when you need to do some designing on location.
