Hi all:

I'm using my Macbook @ school during lectures and have time between courses. I currently shut down my laptop between classes because I fear the fan might get clog if I put the computer to sleep and place it in my bag while not in class. I try not using the computer for @ least an hour when being shut down because I know it might be harmful to the hardward. I been doing this for the past week or so and I really don't think it's is a good option.
So my question is: Would it be alright to put the Macbook to sleep while in my laptop bag?
Any input is most welcome.
Thanks.

Putting it into sleep (closing it) and then putting it into a bag should be fine.

Macs' sleep move is very reliable - it's perfectly safe to transport it while it's asleep.

As far as I know everything is turned off except the RAM meaning all that is running is your RAM that has all the date saved in it (please correct me if I am wrong). The type of sleep mode where the data of the RAM is written on HD is called Deep Sleep I think and in this mode there is nothing that is turned on...meaning theoretically you can even exchange your battery in that particular sleep mode.

Here is a good link from the Apple website explaining Sleep Mode on Macs. Kuchiki pretty much had it right though.

im sure it says in the manual, or somewhere on the apple site to shut it down for transporting so everything is locked up and wont be damaged.
