My system runs hotter than usual. Even after it's been sitting for 2 hours (with the lid closed) the fan is still howling.

Is it common?

First thing, never close your MBP lid when it is on. The keyboard is an area where tons of heat is drawn away from your computer.

There are tons of threads on this forum that answer the heat issue with MBP's.

The one thing I am interested in is the howling after the 2 hours. Is the computer still on? or is it asleep? Are you running a program? If you provide more info, people on this forum can help you out. List the temperature and Fan RPM. Try a program called smcFanControl. This program tells you how hot the MBP is and the RPM of your fans.

I'll get that program and run it next time it happens again. For now it went away after i left the lid open and reboot the system.

I use Insomnia so the system stays on when I close the lid. But nothing is running.

I had the laptop in my bag running for 20 minutes on my way to work. When I took it out it was hot, duh! So I figure what the heck, plug it in and set it aside it'll go away. But after 2 hours the fan is still running and it's still hot.

But you are correct about leaving the lid open. It's been on but stayed cool.
QUOTE Thanks
