I'm using Toast to burn DVDs, and I kept getting errors on it, so I tried a different/higher quality DVR and it burned fine.

I think I have the problem solved, so I insert another disc of the same kind of media and get the following error:

Sense Key = Hardware Error
Sense Code = 0x09, 0x03
Spindle Servo Failure.

To make matters worse, even though the drive barely started burning the DVD, now I'm just wasting discs until it decides to work again. Does anyone have any possible solutions?

P.S. -- the warranty ran out about 2 months ago and I couldn't afford to continue Apple Care. Can anyone give me an idea how much service would cost?

I am gnomishninja's clever signature.

Maybe you could try turning down the burn speed? Maybe that way you'd have more success?
