For starters, upgrading your processor is not an option. Neither is the hard drive if you value your warranty. The only user upgradeable part on that MBP is the RAM, which will run you somewhere in the vicinity of $100 by adding a single 2GB stick to complement your existing 1GB stick.

If you don't care about your warranty, upgrading the hard drive is an option at around $180 for a 200GB drive. The problem with upgrading your processor is that it mostly likely is soldered to the logic board, making replacement a tad bit difficult

It invalidates your warranty because Apple says it does, but really, it's because the hard drive isn't easily accessible the way the RAM is. This way, if you open it up and screw up something, Apple isn't liable to fix your mistake.

For the processor, like I said, it's soldered to the logic board (i.e. motherboard), so the only way to replace it would be to replace the entire logic board, which can get pretty expensive. At that point, it would be cheaper to sell your current MBP and just buy a new one

Not to mention the upgrade from a 2.16 to a 2.3 wouldn't even be worthwhile if you could upgrade it.

Paying the price difference between the 2 of them upon purchase of a computer or when building a rig is one thing.

But having a 2.16 already and paying full price for a 2.3 - no way are you going to be able to see anywhere near the performance increase those $ should get you.

Even amongst the hardware enthusiast crowd (except for those with more money than sense), you would not see any one that builds their own systems contemplate a single incremental upgrade to their CPU.

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.
