MacBook - Macbook hand rest/pad broken

Has anyone had this happen to their macbook? My wife's macbook which is probably 4-5 months old has broken on the edge. You can see the part I'm talking about in the picture below. Its like it wore down to the point of breaking a small part off the edge. Thing is, she can't afford to be without it to get it repaired because she is a photographer and uses it on a daily basis. We bought it at American Musical and last time we had an issue, AM replaced it no charge, etc and Apple wouldn't stand behind it because AM is a reseller and not an Apple Store. The only thing Apple would do before is repair it and they said it could take a month. Luckily AM came through. But now I'm sure its been too long for AM to do anything with this one.

UGGHH...

I believe AppleCare covers stuff like this, so if you're still eligible, you might want to get that, wait a little bit, and then put in a claim with Apple. If you're past the 1 year date, then looks like you're SOL

It is just worn from daily usage. She uses it probably 10 hours a day. Its only 4 months old I think, so I'll call Apple tonight.

Hand Rest Problems

I just bought my MacBook today. I previously had an iBook. Is it just me, or does the edge of the right corner of the computer really irritate your wrists? I don't know what to do. It is very annoying. Anyone else have this problem?

The same EXACT thing happened to me in the EXACT same spot.
My warranty is up next month but I took it into the Apple store and they replaced the whole case, keyboards and everything for free.
I dropped it off and picked it up in about 45 minutes.
Very easy process and now my macbook looks brand new!

This seems to be caused by the plastic protruding piece on the screen side of the Macbook. It's there to give a small gap between the top and bottom when you close your Macbook up. The constantly closing of the Macbook, and the plastic hitting the pad area eventually damages it.

I saw someone else here complain about it earlier. I don't know if it helps, but I try to be gentle when I close the cover. Hopefully Apple is aware of this problem and will try to reinforce that edge area better.

Adri, did you have to make an appointment at the Apple store? Did you buy your macbook there?

Thanks.

My friend had the same thing on his original 13" MB (Rev. A) and apple fixed it w/out any hassle.

Well I dropped my wife's macbook off at the Apple store yesterday at noon and they called me last night at 5:30pm to pick it up because they fixed it. I went in this morning and got it and they replaced the palm rest area and I believe the entire keyboard. They had the parts in stock, so that is why it was so fast.

Now today as I sit here and type I JUST noticed that mine is split and will eventually break. Ugghhh... Back I go...
