I love my glossy screen, but I do not use it out side or near large windows so I do not know what it would be like in regular situations.

I love my glossy screen and would never go back to matte. However... like you assumed, the glare is pretty bad when a window is behind you. Not completely unusable, but pretty bad.

I have no problem with glossy screens at all. I've been using it for over five years starting from a Fujitsu then Vaio and now the MBP. I love the color saturation (no needs for accuracy here) and pictures really "pop-out" of the screen.

I do like the colour saturation on the glossy screens when watching movies; but in bright light the thing just acts as a mirror, and of-course the colour accuracy is all off.

I'm sticking with "Anti-Glare", but I think a glossy coating on those portable DVD players wouldn't be a bad idea.

About the fingerprints. If someone even comes close to touching my screen I take their fingers off. That is a pet peeve. I always think, "Why would you touch the screen anyways!!!"

Back to the main point. There are pro's/con's for both screens. When I put my old laptop (matte) up to my new one (gloss), I like the gloss one.

Yes, why do people touch computer screens (desktop or notebook)?!?!? I don't get it.

Heartily agree! I've been in on this debate before though and some people just hate glossy.

Haha i know, one of my pet peeveevevevsssss is when people point out somthing on the screen and they literally just dig there clammy finger into that beautiful clean screen leaving a fingerprint made for an investigation.

OKay that was an exaggeration but..-sigh- you get my point

Bring back the white, apple?

Pick yourself up a 3M Privacy Screen, you can use it either side facing out, one side is glossy, the other matte. I use the glossy side facing out on my thinkpad unless there is a glare in which case I just spin it around.

Keeps nosey people from watching what you are working on anyway

They run about 50.00

(edit): Just found out they dont make one for the macbook... sorry
