Macbook - iChat Connection Problems

Mac Specs: intel core duo 2 Black Macbook 2gb of ram. 200 gb hardrive,

ive had a black macbook for about 2 weeks now and since i got it ichat only seems to connect when it wants to. my internet connection is strong and im able to go online using safari but ichat is always having problems...anybody having the same problems??
