Hi! I am a forum noobie, so I'm going to try to put this as well as I can:

I'm considering buying a used iBook G4, I have used my friend's and, well, I'm in love.

The only thing with the potential unit is that it has a lot of blemishes from use, including a crack on the outer shell (with the light up apple,) and fading paint near the touch pad.

Is there any product that I could purchase to clean this up, or even an entire new housing for the laptop?

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

You can buy new cases on eBay, including the unit with the trackpad.

Check out ifixit.com for a how-to. If you're comfortable doing it, buy the cases you need for the model you have, get a couple of Black Stick Spudgers to pop it open cleanly, and have at it. Or better yet, go with a custom color!

Any idea where I could get that, other than eBay? I checked there. Perhaps I didn't search the right thing?

Also, I'd like to keep the price as low as possible... but if that's not an option, oh well.
Has anyone ever done this before?

They're usually called cases or case parts, sometimes lid or trackpad assembly.

Lacking that, try applecomponents.com. If it's not in his on-line inventory, he's probably still got it on a shelf. Shoot him an email. I've had nothing but good dealings with him and he's been much cheaper than ifixit or OWC.

Perfect! Thanks for the info. I've found a few site that charge over $100- and I've thought, "That's just not right..."
Thank you!
