Having diy fixed my old 800Mz G3 ibook I'm trying to get it wireless. Has anyone tried either the Belkin PCI card in a G3 ibook or the Belkin G USB wireless thing? I don't know if the PCI card is physically possible but read a thread where someone had put it in a G4. I'm still running OS 10.2.8 but planning to upgrade to 10.4 soon.

thanks

J

There is no PCI slot in an iBook; I assume you mean PCMCIA. Yes, it's technically a PCMCIA under the keyboard but you won't be able to shut the keyboard if the wireless card sticks out at all. I don't know if there are any cards that are the same exact size as the airport card.
If it has drivers for OS X, you should be fine with the USB dongle. But my personal thoughts are to go out and get the AirPort card on eBay or somewhere. It attaches to an antenna that wraps around the LCD for a better signal. I don't know if those dongles can compete with that sort of thing.

i would prefer a usb wireless device over an integrated airport card on a g3 system since the wireless speed is slower.

Mac: Macbook C2D 2.0ghz, 120gb hdd, 1gb ram, black
iPod: iPod nano 2ng gen. 8gb, black

question though... even if you get a G speed wireless usb adapter, won't your performance be limited to 12mbps as thats the most the USB 1 ports on the G3 will flow? a airport card is B speed at 11mbps max right? seems the better way to go...
