Well, two weeks ago I got this lovely replacement Macbook Pro from Apple. The left side of the screen's backlight is darker than the left side. What do I do? I'm so ****** off right now. This is my 6th Macbook Pro
1) Warped Casing/Latch Wouldn't Close
2) Warped Casing, Screen wouldn't close, worst than last one
3) Hinge cracked, squeaking even if you touched the screen
4) Superdrive DOA
5) Superdrive DOA
6) Apple decides to "comp" me for my troubles. Free upgrade to 3gb and 200gb HDD. A free black 80gb iPod, and free Final Cut Studio 2.
Two weeks with this machine. The backlight on the display shows signs of inconsistency and fading.

What do I do? I feel almost insane that I've been through this mess. I honestly thought highly of Apple products, but this is ABSURD. I know what I see, and it's faded. I'm scared. This is crazy. I'm not doing anything to these machines. They sit on my desk, and I browse the net or use Soundtrack Pro. The room is always a cool 70 degrees. I'm shocked. What do I do? Help!

These would seem like valid points and causes for repair/replacement. Apple did the right thing and obliged the replacement.
This one, however:

This seems to be pushing it. The backlight is "inconsistent"? What does that mean? Are there obvious dark blotches and areas where the backlight drops out completely? Can you post some sort of picture that would show this effectively? Does it fluctuate?
I will admit, 5 replacements is excessive, but Apple has done their best at remedying the situation. Unless it is painfully obvious to a group of people (meaning: besides yourself, not having to point it out or circle areas that you feel show the issue, etc.), then I can't see this warranting another replacement. I can understand that you are upset and aggrivated after so many issues with the previous notebooks, but my first reaction is to say that perhaps you are being a little too judgemental on this one.
Now if the photos and pics show it to be an obvious and egregious fault, then I would recant that opinion. Otherwise, I would say that you should be okay and to not worry about this one.

I am not trying to say the OP is making this backlight thing up, but on every laptop I have owned and used that I looked at CAREFULLY, I could find some area that did not look as well lit if I really nitpick. This is with Compaq, IBM Thinkpads, Macs both old and new, HP, Sony Vaio, Dell, Gateway, ETC.

There could be a problem, but like DB said, can you show it in a pic? Is it that obvious?

Wow, I would say you were well-compensated, but that doesn't excuse the problems. I can understand some very VERY minor unevenness, but paying $2000+ for a laptop, you expect some darn good quality. If it is a real issue, I would definitely ask for a Santa Rosa with the LED backlight, hoping that the new LED model might be better.
