I have been searching this forum for a while deciding what kind of Mac computer I want as my first personal Mac. I have decided on a Macbook Pro. I am planning on waiting until after WWDC to see if anything happens there that might change my mind about which one I plan on buying, but I am pretty sure that the Macbook Pro is the best for my needs no matter what new things might come out.

I live in Orlando and am lucky to have a few Apple stores in my area, but I want to purchase my MBP from a local Circuit City because my dad has reward points for Circuit City and they need to be used by the end of the month. I was wondering if anyone knows if Circuit City is still going to be carrying the MBP as I have noticed that they don't currently have any on their website (I know that stocks are low and not many resellers have them except the Apple store, and many think they will be updated within the next two weeks). I also noticed that they still don't have the updated version of the Macbook on their website either, while other resellers like Best Buy already have them on their website. I haven't been able to head to the local Circuit City that carries the Macs and when I tried to call and ask the store questions, there wasn't anyone there willing to help me and I kept being put on hold. After an hour of that, I gave up and decided to ask on this forum in case anyone works at Circuit City or knows anything about this.

If the stores already have the new Macbook in stock, but their website doesn't carry them yet, that would probably be a good indication that if the MBP gets updated soon, the stores will have them in stock in a reasonable amount of time even if the website doesn't show them. Also if there is a way to order them from the store, even if they don't have them in stock yet, that would work as well. I know these last few things are currently regarding the Macbook, but I would assume that they would probably be similar for a MBP, or should I not assume that?

Thanks for any advice or answers anyone can share.

That is a risky assumption. If you want the last models as soon as they are released, then go the an Apple Store. If you want to save money, the go online and buy refurbished or older models from Apple. If you want to use those Circuit City points, don't worry, once you get you laptop you will probably require other things, a bag at least.

Well the thing is that the points are actually reward points that my dad gets from his job (he works for Sony) and at the end of the month, they are changing the way that they distribute the points. He has over 4,000 that must be used by the end of the month or they go to waste. They are only accepted at certain retailers and Circuit City is the only one who sells Macs right now. Its not so much that we are trying to save money, its more that my dad wants to get rid of the points and is trying to spend them as fast as he can since he might as well use them (he started with 10,000 last month when Sony announced the change).

If I know for a fact that Circuit City will be selling them, then we were going to just go ahead and buy it from there since it will basically be free (the last forum I posted on, when I mentioned that it would basically be free, people were very angry and thought that I was trying to brag and act spoiled, when really I just wanted some advice and I never got any real help). If Circuit City won't be selling them, then the first place I will go is the Apple Store to pick one up the day they are updated. The only reason I have been waiting is because I don't need the computer right this minute (as school is out for summer and I will not be going back until the end of August) and I know that WWDC is so close.

My dad said that if they won't be sold there then he will just buy me some gift cards to use to buy accessories and such though and find something else to use the points on. He just wants to know as soon as he can so he can make sure that he uses them.

Thanks for the advice though, you are right that I better not make any assumptions. I suppose that I will just drive to the store on the day they are released and bother the people working there until they give me a definite answer about the MBP. If anyone has any info though, that would be great so I can get my hands on my nice shiny new MBP as fast as I can. I've been waiting for 2 years to get it, and now it seems like it can't come fast enough.

Haha I'm sure that I could. The points are just on a credit card like thing, they are basically just dollars. Already got a TV from the deal and my dad just won one from work for the house. He got me a dslr and surround sound too for my apartment. Don't know what else I could possibly need once I get my MBP though.

Hmm I don't know about that one. I suppose that they will just give me a store credit and not actually cash, although I should check into that. Good idea!
