Startup problem/

My iBook is 7 days old, and on a number of occasions, it has refused to start-up, but just starts with a loud fan-like noise when I push the power switch.

I've tried ringing Apple technical support, but they don't answer the 'phone.....(another issue).

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

Ben

Maybe start in single user - hold command S and in that mode type /sbin/fsck -fy until *****FILE SYSTEM CHANGED**** no longer shows Are you having good power? Tried running on house current?
