I don't know if it specifically between PPC and Intel, but I was using a friend's iBook (my first and only mac is this wonderful Macbook) and noticed that when his display dims it "fades" into its dim. When my display (and another friend's macbook Pro's display) dims, it dims and undims to it's final shade immediately.
I hope someone understands what I am trying to say, it's more of an appearance issue than anything. I like the fading effect. |

Macbooks have newer displays. That dim thing might just be to battery intensive.
