And it's awesome!!!! (2.33, 2gb ram, 160gb HD, glossy screen)

I'm a total mac convert after living with several PC over the years. I bought my first laptop- a Toshiba Satellite 4 years ago and it has served me well. It's now being passed on as an email/surfing machine.

The mac took a few frustrating days to get used to. I had to learn about how programs install- after someone told me that you drag the icon to the applications folder, that made a big difference.

I've also loaded up with office.mac, quicken, and some other programs such as ipod.rip. I also needed stuffit expander, and flip for mac to play .wma files. It was frustrating to show off the new laptop and watch as people laugh when you can't play a simple media file without a plugin.

It would have also been good to know how to turn on external monitor "mirroring" so I could play videos on my TV. That held up my audience for 20 minutes.

I'm still learning the shortcuts, and haven't really played with the application that much yet. I loaded Firefox/Thunderbird and imported all my pc stuff. I loaded up parallels, but lost the windows CD- I'm glad I did. I can't believe I haven't had to use windows yet! I will need windows eventually to run my SCUBA computer software (Sunnto dive manager) and also my Garmin mapping program (they are working on a OS X version).

I'm about to order applecare since my computer nerd buddy who converted me to mac says I need it.

Got to say, I'm feeling exactly the same. The first week, there was a few things that I didn't like, (like uninstalling applications, i really think there should be a built in app to do this), but really couldn't be happier with it. I havent used Windows yet either. Makes you wish you'd switched a couple of years earlier, doesn't it?!

I've had mine for four weeks, so I'm like so totally more experienced than you and stuff.

My experience has also been very positive. A few bumps in the road but all in all the Mac is such a great machine and such a great community. Walking around the mall with my Apple Store bag, I had people stop just to tell me they loved their Macs. When is the last time someone stopped you and said, "Boy do I love my Dell!"

My WinXP use is the opposite of you two; I use BootCamp every day or two to play games, and I use Parallels daily for accessing my employer's Active-X-controlled webmail. Everything works together great.

if you have an iPod you can just put the video on it, and use the AV cable set to play it out to TV. You'd be surprised the quality of video that little thing can put out

But mirroring is easy to. Apple menu>System Preferences>Displays. it's all in there.

I just got mine a couple days ago after using the "family iMac" (g5) I'm really excited to have my own MacBook. Looking forward to years with it and WITHOUT Windows.:black:

You have the choice of mirroring or displaying to the second monitor independently. Hook up the monitor and go in the display preferences, then click on the Detect Displays.
