I am looking for a Macbook pro for this up coming year for college. I am very short on cash but when it comes to computers i need the best. Anyways I was looking for the best price possible and came apon this site. This is about $500 cheaper then on the apple site and thats enough of a difference to me. First of all what generation are we on. on the site it says these are the seond generations. I don't want a second if we are past it to the newest books without all the issues. Also has anyone ever heard any good thoughts about this place. Am i losing anything from this deal if i don't buy from apple. Besides the student discount and free ipod. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like one of those two is gonna have to give in a little,

You can find great deals on Macs saving $500 or more in some cases on the Apple Refurbed/Sale site:

Ha it will be the cash. I will save up and wait for it, trust me i am no good with it. Plus i need to beat out my roommates macbook . Anyways I saw the refurbished ones aswell, and might end up getting one of those. But I think the one on that site is a little cheaper for the exact model. And if im not losing anything by ging to a different site then why not save.

Don't be fooled by the word "refurbished" from Apple - theses machines are as good as new, they just can't be sold as new. I'd look there first and then go elsewhere.

I recently got a refurbished MacBook Pro and I wouldn't have known it wasn't a new machine if it hadn't been packaged a bit differently. Remember, Apple puts all refurbished machines thru several testing stages before shipping them and replaces anything that needs replacing and on top of that, refurbished macs have the same warranty as new.

My 2.16 ghz MBP with 1 GB of RAM was $2149 and a new machine would have been $2499. Granted, that's only a savings of $350, but I got it from a merchant I trust.

so what is the reason they are considered refurbished? are they just used ones that are returned. And will they have the newest tech inside of them or smoe older parts?

To view the details, you can go to the apple site here: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...certified.html

Basically, these are computers that were returned because of a defective part and Apple replaces any defective parts, tests it and then installs whatever software the new version would have. Yes, it's possible you may get a computer with older components this way. However, they clearly indicate what processor, RAM, and graphics card come with it.

I'm sure if you called the Apple 800 line, they'd be able to address any specific concerns you may have. :ninja:

I heard something about a new logic board or something? Would they have updated them with these?

no offence, but may be you should get to know more about mac computers e.g. do a bit more research and try to get your hands on one - before you jump aboard and make $2k + purchase (especially when you say you're tight on cash) you dont wanna regret dishing out $2K for a too top of a line laptop only to realize that its outdated in about 6 months - i predict a revision in fall 06 (thats what happened when i got my 12" g4)

also think about all the beers / liquor you can get when you're in college : P

Ha, the liquor scene is not an issue. I have my connections and will always make sure to have the money. Anyways I have been looking at Macs for quite sometime. I have used them quite a bit at school and a buddy of mines macbook. I know i will not be disappointed with the pro. I'm just looking for the best price possible. I don't care who you are but the Macbook pro is BS over priced.

Also I was hoping for a student discount on the refurbed ones but it does not look like i can do so .

personally i dont think the macbook pro is overpriced.. i paid about the same amount for my 12" pbook w/ dvd burner.. i have no regrets on it - except that i didn't get the 15" (w/o dvd burner) back then..

but honestly if you can hold back on dishing out the money i would - because the macbook pro is still too new and full of bugs.. i would feel devestated or even cheated if i had to save so long to buy such an expensive investment only to find that it is not that "great"
