Okay, I'm trying to find out if this macbook will be good enough for me. This will be my first mac purchase and was curious what you suggest.
-1.83 Ghz Core Duo -1 Gig of Ram -80 Gig Hardrive Everything else is standard. I will be a senior in highschool this school year and wanted something portable, and the mac has the perfect screen size, and I heard it was durable. But the realy question is how much of a difference is there between the 2.0 and the 1.83 ghz processor? I'm getting this for $1,281 after all prices considered. Could I save 45 bucks and just get the 60 gig hdd or should I stick with the 80 gig? Thank you for your help. I can't wait to become one of you mac users. I will probably be needing help from you all in a couple weeks when I get my macbook. Thanks again Noob Matt |

I considered a dell, but it cost the same to make it as good, with the cheaper plastic case and no built in bluetooth or camera. Thanks again! I'm so excited to be a mac user. |

I was thinking of PC Notebook as well because I have iMac 20" Intel Core DUO and Mac Mini (Power PC) but I figure with Boot Camp I can have the best of both worlds...!!! |

I had another question.
How much hard drive space does the OS X take up? I am thinking of just getting the 60 gig hard drive to save me 2 more weeks of waiting for money. Do you think thats enough? I plan on using and old hard drive of mine to make an external drive for like 20 bucks. It is an 80 Gig, so would that be enough? Thanks again. Matt PS: any hardware problems with your MB so far? I want to know whether or not to expect any issues. |

A 60gb HD will format to around 55gb, then OS X takes up about 3gb. There are programs (search) that can automate the removal of certain languages, keyboard layouts, and printer drivers that can save you a good 2gb of storage if you don't need them.
I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can. They're - Their - There | Two - Too - To | You're - Your | MAC - Mac I was on the M-F honor roll for October, 2006.

The biggest issues with the Macbook so far has been the heat issue and discolouring around the hand rest area and trackpad.
1) heat issue - if you keep it well ventilated then shouldn't be a problem 2) discolouring - I haven't noticed any yet on mine and I've had it for over a month - keep your hands super clean (no eating chocolates and typing) =) |
