If you're not familiar with invisibleSHIELD, it's basically heavy-duty Saran wrap for your electronics devices. Makes it scratch-proof and fairly smudge-proof. Well worth the price. They come in 3 flavors:

Bottom shield
Standard shield
Full body shield

They're not cheap but oh-so-worth-it. I wouldn't get an iPod with a screen without it. Especially good if you have a white MacBook, otherwise it may end up like this:

This is just what I was looking for. The funny thing is, that I just purchased an iPod shield from them a couple days ago and didn't even realize that they had one for the MacBook. Great find!!

I chose the USPS (Post Office) option. I don't like the other guys. They can't get to my home before 5pm. But the mailman can.

But yes, Apple is taking care of the stain problem.

So far the Invisible Shield has been great. It was a little tricky putting on the large front cover, but the smaller pieces were a breeze. I didn't apply the included trackpad cover. I didn't want to change the smooth texture. The shield has a slight sticky texture to it. It wouldn't work well with the trackpad, IMO.

Also, there was a problem applying it to the front. Since the apple logo on the front of the MacBook is a seperate piece of plastic, it is not perfectly level with the rest of the cover. So I was not able to remove all of the water from above the logo. So after is set for a few minutes, it simply cut out the plastic that was above the logo. It was simple to cut, just trace the apple with a razor and the shield was removed. I dried the excess water, and it looks great.

If I had noticed that, then I could have tried a little harder to remove the water from that area. Just be aware of it.

Summary: Highly recommened. Keeps the Mac clean and scratch free, and is easy to clean. Not I'm not so worried about touching it and the stain issue.

Did it change to a gloss finish or does the matte color still show through?

Yes, it does.

Now call me silly if you like, but those pics are showing that MacBook reflecting some rather large amounts of light if you ask me... which by definition and your own description of the photos, would make the finish glossy and not matte.

Either way I would like the person who has them installed on his macbook to reply. I know what matte is and the principals behind it. If your in a non well lit room does it look matte or glossy.

If you still have to ask, then you are not understanding the principles of matte vs. glossy :black:
That is a rather well-lit room in that photo. A non well-lit room would not matter... glossy is going to reflect whatever available light is in the room. Conversely, matte will not reflect the light in that manner... it matters not how bright or dim the light is in the room is, matte simply will not reflect light.
I have included some attached pics to help demonstrate why you can obviously see a difference. In the first you can see how on a MacBook without the pads applied, the matte finish is the same on the trackpad as it is on the wrist rest.
Next is also a photo showing pads applied to a PowerBook, which also has a matte finish. Notice how the glossy reflections disapear on the trackpad and surrounding wrist rest that is not covered by the pads.
Finally, one of the photos from the OP with some of the same key features pointed out to show that the matte finish of the wrist rests in particular is lost once the pads were applied.

I see your point D3v1l80Y,

I just dont understand then why someone would buy a rocken matte colored computer and then slap gloss on it. Think 50s and 60s hotrod then some idiot sprayed clear over it.... Thats why I was thinking the matte had to shine through..
