iBook - iBook freezes @ desktop, but icons are active.

hello guys, im new to this and hopefully this isn't a repost. i think my question is unique (in a bad way...)
i first got my iBook w/ 9.2.1 os and then it suddenly started freezing @ the deskstop. it will not freeze if im doing disc check on start up, no matter how long i leave it idling for. as soon as the os loads the timer starts. it usually locks up within 1-3mins. The icon still moves, but i cant click on anything. (if i move fast enough i can do disk first aid and prevent the lock up) if i do a disc first aid, it says to continue u must quit all programs that are running, click continue to terminate programs. so i click continue to terminate programs that are running. and the computer wont freeze. if i dont do that, my ibook will lock up. i think i have a virus?! ive done hardware checks and the disc first aid i tried updating to 9.2.2 and it didnt fix anything :X and i bought some restore cds from an online website, that fully restore ibook os 9.2.2 and when i do the restore, it says " configuration 'ibook hd disc 1.dmg' apple restore completely erase blah blah blah" and i select the macintosh hd as a destination and it says "this configuration isnt supported on this computer..."

awwwww! can i erase my entire hd w/ a third party software? like that, i think, itll install ... plz help! thanks!
