I purchased a Macbook a little under a month ago (june 2). I am already starting to notice the discoloration issue. While Im not incredibly mad, I would just like to see if it would be within apples rules to exchange it and get a black one. Any suggestions? Would the local apple store I got it from allow that? What if I told them I simply decided I like the black one better? I did some searching but I didn't find anything concrete on the subject. Thanks!

It is a cosmetic issue and comes from normal use. They are not going to exchange it for you for that reason.
There are several threads here on dealing with cleaning it and keeping it that way. Try the SEARCH FUNCTION and you will find a plethora of them.

Cleaning works on the imac but does not appear to work on the macbook. What I am saying is that Im not even going to mention that would be the reason for the exchange. The fact that I decided I need the extra space on the hardrive would be why i was exchanging it. I wouldnt even mention the very slight discoloration I am getting. Also mine really isnt that bad, you have to look in certain lights and you can tell it is turning darker where your hands would rest. I just want to eliminate the problem before it really starts. And please don't suggest washing my hands, I wash my hands like its going out of style!

Well since you got the computer more than 14 days ago you won't be able to exchange it for needing more space. There would have to be a manufacturing defect of some sort.
And the MacBook exterior is the same as the iBook, so yeah the cleaning methods for the iBook should work just fine. :black:

Yeah I just spoke with them and they said they would probably do it but there would be a restocking fee. After lots of searching I have come to the conclusion that its not the same casing material as the ibook. Either way I am just going to pick up some clear protector or somekind to put over it and hold out to see what Apple if they ever, does about it. I like the computer other than how dang easily this happens.
