Hi all, this is my first post!

I was just wondering if anyone uses their macbook with an external mouse, keyboard and display with the lid shut (clamshell mode?) as this is how I am planning to use mine when I am at home

If so can you tell me if there are any issues incresed heat or if you hav encountered any other problems?

Thanks in advance!

I've heard a lot of people reccomend against it, due to heat. However, I have no first hand experience on the matter. It just seems like a bad idea haha.

Why would there me more heat with the lid closed?

While I can't speak for the MacBook, the iBook (MacBook predecesor) had the majority of the heat vented through the keyboard. With the lid closed, you block off the main vent and the laptop will overheat.

questionable maybe, but I wouldn't say its rediculously poor. After all, heated air rises. Anyways the keyboard that is on the macbooks looks like it would'nt allow for any convective cooling through the keyboard so it shouldn't be the case as it was with the ibooks.

yeah, the ibook never officialy supported it. part of the screen spanning hack was supposed to enable it, but there was this huge disclaimer that always put me off using it! It is a feature of the macbook so theoretically there's no reason why it should not be fine. I just wondered how reliable it was in practice.

The MacBook is designed to let heat out through the bottom.

should be fine, just don't try to remaster an old home movie or something...you could end up with a melted pile of white (or black) plastic.
